Each year, Orion Area Youth Assistance sends dozens of youngsters to summer camp through a scholarship fund known as our "Adopt A-Camper" program. Funding includes an annual contribution of $5,000 from the Charter Township of Orion. This critically important program provides a wonderful camp experience to children who would otherwise not have the opportunity to attend camp.
OAYA receives applications from families who meet financial guidelines as well as referrals from school personnel and local leaders for students who could benefit from a summer camp experience. Last summer, a total of 120 weeks of summer camp were provided including:
Camp Wanna Have Fun
Dragon Extreme Adventure Camp
Various Athletic Camps
Orion Art Camp
These camps provide many activities, including those that promote teamwork, leadership, and social skills.
Many thanks go to LOCS Community Enrichment Program and Lori McGraw for their passion for youth and continued support of the OAYA Camp program.
Additionally, in 2019 we began sponsoring the Early Childhood Explorers' Camp, offered to our Head Start students. This provided three weeks of additional enrichment and learning for our youngest kiddos.
Donations to "Adopt-A-Camper" are gladly welcomed and greatly appreciated. The more funds we have, the more children we can send to camp! If you are interested in sponsoring a camper, please call or write Stella Britt at 248-693-6878 or firstname.lastname@example.org or make a donation right here on our home page!
With the limited slots available for camp this year due to COVID-19, requests will be filled on a first- come, first-serve basis. Forms must be returned via fax or email. If you are unable to do so, please contact the office to make alternate arrangements due to employees working remotely.
